Dev Team: Be Aware of Scams, Unlock May Come

In light of the news we posted a while back about Sherif Hashim having exploited the 05.12.01 baseband, the Dev Team given some more info about the exploit and about future unlocks.

Firstly, they have corrected the previous news that the baseband had been exploited. It is apparently not fully true. Sherif has managed to crash the baseband which will probably cause an exploit to be found but it hasn’t been found yet.

Included in the new iPhone OS 3.1.3 was a new baseband which caused any users who accidently updated to loose their unlock. Therefore, the creator of the FuzzyBand baseband downgrader have gone ahead and released a new version allowing you to downgrade your 05.12.01 baseband (included in OS 3.1.3) to 04.26.08 which is unlockable by Ultrasn0w. iPhoneUnlockUK is a company that utilise the Dev Team’s free to use iPhone unlocker called Ultrasn0w to make money. Despite the license for the program saying that commercial use of the program is prohibited, they still do it and they are not the only one. A lot of the people are wasting their money buying programs like Ultrasn0w when they are publicly available for free.

Ultrasn0w Update from the Dev Team

The Dev Team have released an update to their iPhone unlocker called Ultrasn0w which unlocks iPhone with Baseband under 05.11.07. The update fixes the carrier naming problem that quite a few people were suffering from. You can download the update through Cydia (it should appear automatically).

If you have an iPhone with 05.1107 (ie doesn’t work with Ultrasn0w) and want to unlock it, use Blackra1n.

A new developer under the name of Scottyatur has claimed that he has come up with the unlock for iPhone’s stuck on baseband 05.11.17. He posted a video on QiK but has now been removed. He has been in talks with GeoHot and iH8Sn0w about the exploit.  Read the rest of this entry »
