PSX4iPhone, the Playstation 1 emulator for the iPhone and iPod Touch, has been updated by Zodttd the creator for firmware OS 3.1.2. However he states the speed-wise there is not too much difference and for the emulator to really ’shine’, you need an iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch 3rd Generation.

The emulator can be downloaded through Cydia on the Zodttd & Macciti source that should already be on your device.

This has been a long time coming, but my schedule is just now starting to free up. I have updated psx4iphone to also support the 3.1.x series of firmwares. Included in psx4iphone v1.1.0 is a fix for a bug causing the non-scaled landscape screen to display properly.

Don’t expect too much difference in performance. This emulator will still require an iPhone 3gs or iPod Touch 3rd Gen to really shine. I will be working more on this emulator as I get more free time.

You can download psx4iphone from the ZodTTD Repo which is built-in to Cydia via the included community sources package. This means it is also available via RockApp, Icy, etc. Brief installation instructions are provided within the package info.

If you run into any issues with psx4iphone v1.1.0 feel free to ask for support via the comments. Just remember, don’t ask for ROMs/ISOs or where to get the BIOS.

In the video the developer uses an iPhone 3G and it runs very smoothly which shows that it will probably work near perfectly on all the iDevices and flawlessly on the newest models (iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3rd gen).

The application will be released on the Rock store soon so keep checking it!

I have always had the Rock.app program on my iPhone as I am a big users of RockYourPhone’s Intelliscreen application but up until now, I haven’t really had a good look at it.

But after using it for a day, checking out all the different features, I’m starting to think that maybe Rock is actually better than Cydia. Here’s why.

We all hate the fact that Cydia keeps ‘Reloading Data’. It takes forever and is always doing. It’s a huge hasle and time waster. Rock on the other hand does not have this problem at all. Rock is smooth, fast and has many more features than Cydia does.

The great thing about Rock is that it uses the same sources as Cydia ie any sources added through Cydia will also be added onto the Rock app. This means you can get all the same apps, plus more, with Rock. What I mean by ‘plus more’ is that you can also access all the apps created by the RockYourPhone team (the team that created the Rock app) such as Intelliscreen and MyWii.

However my favorite feature is reviews and ratings. Users can write a short review (much like in the AppStore) about every app and can also add a 5-star rating if they wish. Because of these reviews, it then has a Most Popular and Highest rated pages as well which is helpful as well.

But Remember….

…these are not the only two apps available for you to use. There is also Kryptes and Icy. Iptolage123 from iPodTouchFans has put together some pros and cons of all the different ones that are available:

Cydia-
Pros-
-More Stable than the other two
-Works better with the apt sources
Cons-
-Slower than others
-Constantly reloading data
-One bad source and you have to restore
-Doesn’t have a good back up sytem

Icy-
Pros-
-Alot cleaner and faster than Cydia but nowhere near Rock
Cons-
-Can’t have Icy at the same time as Cydia
-Not stable at all

Rock-
Pros-
-Quicker
-The Back-up system
-Mutiple downloads at once
-The option to soft reset at exit not after you install the package
-As many packages as cydia uses same sources
-Cool UI

Cons-
-Less Stable than Cydia
-Backup has put multiple idevices in ifinte loop
-Can’t install SOME paid 3rd party apps
-Reportably installs bogus adware
-Alot of the time it is hard to add a repo

Kryptes
Pros-
Alrite UI
-Don’t HAVE to actually install it (but you can)

Cons-
-Not many stuff yet
-Mainly ringotnes mixed in with themes

All I’m saying is that you should go out and see what else is available. Most people will never have used anything but Cydia and I would strongly recommend to try out Rock (and the others) and see if you like it better (I do). So, what do you use?

It’s an amazing app which allows you to view your calendar, weather, emails, SMSs and more all from your lockscreen without the need to unlock your iPhone/iPod Touch. Now, RockYourPhone the creators of the app, have given me the opportunity to review their great app and I would like to thank them for this.

It is also interesting for me to do this because, since I used to trial of this app in the 1.1.1 days, I have been able to see this app evolve and become more and more sophisticated until it is what it is today – an amazing addition to my iPhone.

This app may not be the most secure due to the fact that anyone can see all your SMSs, emails and whatever else you choose to display using the Intelliscreen application but if that is not really a problem for you, then this app is great.

Weather:

Having the week’s weather on my lockscreen was one of the main reasons for me wanting this app. It displays what the weather will be (snowy, cloudy, stormy etc) and gives you the max & min of the temperature. It displays a 7-day forecast for wherever you choose. You can also have multiple destinations where you want to know the weather and switch between them simply by scrolling through them.

It also allows you to choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit. The weather forecasts are powered by Weather Underground and if you click on a certain day in the forecast, it shows you a mobile-version of their site giving all the weather in more detail such as the humidity level, wind direction and speed.

In the top right-hand corner of the box containing the weather is a small circular arrow where if you press it, it will update all the weather straight from your lockscreen.

Mail:

Within the mail part of this app, you can show as many different emails as you want and how many of the message from each one you want to show. Again you scroll through them. On the top it will display which email address the message was sent to and if you double click on that, you can quickly shuffle through all the email address you have selected to show.

Also, if you click on a specific email, a box will pop up allowing you to read the full email, see who it is from, delete it and launch the mail app (you still need to enter PIN code if you have one).

In the settings, within the Intelliscreen app on your SpringBoard, of the mail section you can select which email addresses you want to show, which order you would like them to come up in and how many of the emails you want to be shown (only new messages, 10 recent messages etc). Plus you can also turn on/off ‘Tap to Check Mail’ meaning you can tell it to download the new emails all from the lockscreen.

SMS:

For the SMSs, you can choose how many of the messages you want to show (only new messages, 10 recent messages etc). Also, as for the emails, if you click on the SMS you can view the message who its from, mark as unread, delete it and launch the SMS app (if you have a PIN code you still need to imput it).

If you click on the SMS on the lockscreen, it does make it on the SMS app that the SMS has been read.

Calendar:

This displays all your events within your calendar. You can select it to show only things for today, today tomorrow, upcoming week etc. You can also choose which calendars (if you have multiple calendars) to show up.

As in the SMS and Email part of it, if you click on the event that you have programmed into the device, you can see the name of it, location and times that it finishes and ends.

News & Sports

This is my second favorite box you can add. This one gives you all the top or latest headlines from the feeds that you want. They have preprogrammed ones such as Yahoo! Most Emailed or ABC News but you can also add in your own custom RSS feed that you want to see.

There is also a circular arrow on this box so that you can update the headlines from the lockscreen. You can also customize how many of the items you want displayed, whether you want Google API for Safari and whether you want it to update every so often.

If you click on the selected item it will show you the full article on the corresponding feed’s website.

For the sports feeds, you can see news from:

ESPN Major League Baseball

ESPN National Football League

ESPN National Basketball Assoc

ESPN National Hockey League

ESPN NCAA Men’s Football

ESPN NCAA Women’s Basketball

—————————————————————————

As well as displaying all the above thing on the lockscreen, Intelliscreen also gives you ‘IntelliAlerts’ meaning you get little icons appear on the status bar showing if you have an email, SMS or missed call. You can also select a reminder frequency, alert Quiet Time and which sound you want for the alerts.

Intelliscreen also comes with 10 different skins to choose from plus you can add your own by inputting the address of where it can be downloaded on the web. Intelliscreen also allows you to edit the time between when you last touch the screen in the lockscreen and when the screen turns off.

With a swipe of the time on the lockscreen, your Intelliscreen will disappear into a small button placed under the time saying ‘Intelliscreen’. If you want it to show again, simply click on that button. Intelliscreen also has the ability to have two pages of its boxes. You rotate between them simply by double-clicking the time.

IntelliScreen DOES need a jailbroken phone to use and if you don’t have a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch, RockYourPhone actually have software which will add their ‘Rock.app’, an Installer-esque application, where you can buy all RockYourPhone’s creations. You can download this software from HERE (you need to sign in).

If your iPhone/iPod Touch is already jailbroken, I would recommend you download the ‘Rock Extensions’ and ‘RockApp’ from the ModMyI source from Cydia. This does the same thing as the above software except easier.

This brilliant app is $9.99 and is a must-have on all iPhone/iPod Touchs in my opinion. If you want to try it out, you can download a free trial from HERE before buying.

I am confident that everyone who buys will not be disappointed. Get it now from $9.99!
