Name: ZZCase Swirlite Silicon Case for iPhone 3G/3GS| Price: $12.99 $7.99 [Buy it] | Rating: 4/5

Today I’ve got a review for another silicon case, this time created by the folks over at ZZCase.com. The case is called the Swirlite Silicon Case, named after it’s design on the back of the case. The case is for the iPhone 3G/3GS and is currently on sale! Find out if it’s worth buying or not after the break!

The case is made entirely from oderless-silicon which is a plus because the first silicon case for my 1st generation iPod Touch had quite a stench when I first got it and took a day or two to loose it. ZZCase’s Swirlite doesn’t smell at all, straight out of the box.

The case has the neccassary cut out for the vibrate on/off switch and has slight protrusions so that you know where the buttons for volume and the on/off switch are without needing to look. However, this is one of the slight downfalls of this case because of the thickness of the silicon, you need to push quite hard, especialy for the volume buttons, to press it and also, you get very little tactile response (it sometimes doesn’t feel like you have actually pressed it). This is more a problem with the volume buttons than the on/off switch.

The hole at the button of the case, unlike for most of the cases that I have used, is big and spans across the whole of the button of the iDevice which is a positive in my opinion because with many of my other cases, you cannot use your iPhone in a dock with the case on, but with this one you can.

The design is where I fall in love with this case. The feel and the look of the swirls indented into the back of the case is gorgeous. The swirls emanate from the hole cut into the back of the case allowing you to see the Apple logo. Not only this, but the indentations add a significant amount of grip, both in my hand and when my iPhone is in my pocket (my iPhone has a tendency of slipping out of my pockets, this case stops that). Also, the wide range of colors means that everyone can use this case, no matter what your favorite colour is. The case that I am using is the blue and looks great on my iPhone.

Unlike the Otterbox Impact Series case that I reviewed, the case doesn’t cover the black bit that encircles the screen, but simply frames the whole iPhone’s front. This makes it a bit more liable to getting slightly lop-sided on the iPhone but a quick rearrange fixes that.

This case has tons potentially with it’s great colour selection and design but quality is what it lets it down a bit. For example, if you rearrange the camera to be centered in it’s cut-out, then the cut-out for the Apple logo is no longer centered. Despite this, as it doesn’t really both my, I still really like this case and am going to be using it from now on.

You can find the ZZCase Swirlite Case for the iPhone 3G/3GS $12.99 $7.99 [Buy it]

Apple have issued a statement regarding the the hacks that they were subjected to by a hacker called Thuat Nguyen who hacked into 400 different iTunes accounts and bought applications totaling approx. $100 – 140 on each account in an effort to get his apps into the top 10 of the AppStore.

Apple’s only move at fixing the problem was to remove all of Thuat’s apps from the AppStore and I presume, launch an investigation into the hacker.

This is the statement that Apple released:

The developer Thuat Nguyen and his apps were removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchase patterns.

Developers do not receive any iTunes confidential customer data when an app is downloaded.

If your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and issuing a chargeback for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately. For more information on best practices for password security visit http://www.apple.com/support/itunes.

Name: OtterBox Impact Series Case| Price: $19.95 [Buy it] | Rating: 4.5/5

In the past, I have reviewed two other OtterBox cases (Defender Series and Commuter Series) and have thoroughly loved both of them. Today, I get to play around with another one of their cases, their Impact Series Case for the iPhone 3G/3GS.

Unlike the other two OtterBox cases, the Impact Series is made from only one layer – silicon. Purely silicon cases have never really appealed to be because the one silicon case that I have bought in the past was too floppy and didn’t fit onto my old iPod Touch well enough. However, the OtterBox Impact Series case is the complete opposite. The rubber fits perfectly around the iDevice within and feels solid in your hand. The case also feels nice and smooth in your hand and doesn’t add much weight to the phone at all.

The Impact Series case is available in two colours; black and white, but OtterBox currently have three different limited edition cases called the Impact Series Etched Cases. There are only two hundred of each case being produced and one is already sold out so if you want one, you had better buy soon for $24.95 [Buy it]!

The case is made from a durable silicon which is engineered to protect your device in every way. Due to the design, if you drop your iPhone onto the floor screen down, the added silicon padding on the top and button of the case will provide a buffer zone for both the shock and ensuring the screen doesn’t get scratched on the floor. Each corner of the case is fortified with extra silicon to protect the device within from shocks after being dropped on it’s corner.

The case has all the necessary holes to provide clear access to all the buttons, the 30 pin connector at the bottom of your iPhone and the headphone plug. The hole for the camera and the one that allows you to show off the Apple logo on the back of your iPhone are both perfectly center demonstrating the attention to detail OtterBox have put in with the Impact Series case (and all their other cases).

Included inside the box, you will find the Impact Series case, an OtterBox screen protector, a tool for squeezing out air pockets whilst installing the screen protector and a micro-fibre cloth. The case is compatible with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

The only negative I can find about this case, which wasn’t a problem on their Commuter Series due to the plastic exo-skeleton, is that when you are shifting through pages on your iPhone’s SpringBoard or some other left – right or right – left swipe, your finger sometimes gets caught on the rubber encircling the screen. This reveals the silver bezel enveloping the iPhone and also creates a slap noise when it returns to it’s normal position. I have been using the case for a couple of days now and I can say this problem gets less and less prominent as it becomes a habit to do slightly less elaborate swipes to avoid this problem.

iH8sn0w has become the first to create a jailbreak for the iOS 40 firmware on your iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom. As well as the jailbreak, he has posted a guide on pwning iOS 4.0 on your iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) with OS 3.1.2 blobs.

If you prefer a video tutorial, we have posted one! Click here to see it.

If you don’t have an iDevice with a new bootrom, you can click here to view a jailbreak for you.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

* An iPhone 3G[S] — new bootrom
* 3.1.2 SHSH blobs.
* difrnt’s iBSS grabber
* Payload Pwner-r2 for the 3GS.
* sn0wbreeze V1.6.2
* iBooty
* LibUSB (64-Bit users read carefully!!!)
* 3.1.2/4.0 3GS firmware downloaded.
——-
STEP A : Grabbing your 3.1.2 iBSS file.

Pointing your hosts :

I : If you have your shsh blobs saved on Cydia/Saurik’s server then follow this tutorial. – http://saurik.com/id/12

II : If you have it saved with TinyUmbrella, then download the GUI here. – http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/
——-
Restoring to grab the iBSS file.

I : Place your device in DFU.

II : Start up the iBSS/iBEC grabber.

III : Put the save folder on a new folder on your desktop.

IV : Hit “Start Monitoring”.

V : Now go back to iTunes and do SHIFT + Restore. Then browse for your 3.1.2 IPSW. You will need to restore
to 3.1.2 in order to pwn 4.0.
——-
Saving your iBSS

I : After Restoring, Go to the folder that you have specified to save your iBSS file.

II : You will see folders like (Per**.tmp). Go into one of them, and you’ll see a folder called “Firmware”. Go there. Then go to the folder “dfu”.

III : Copy the iBSS file to a safe place, then you can remove the folder created by the iBSS Grabber.
——
STEP B : Creating custom 4.0 firmware.

I : Download sn0wbreeze from HERE and create your custom 4.0 ipsw.

*Ignore the warnings after browsing for the ipsw.*
——
STEP C : Installing LibUSB for iRecovery

Run this mini tool to detect your O/S + Arch. – Windows + Arch. Detector

*********
WARNING : IF LIBUSB IS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY, YOUR USB MIGHT NO LONGER WORK!
*********
Windows XP Users download this installer – LibUSB Installer
*********
Windows Vista/7 users RUNNING 32-Bit:

* Download the installer and run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP.

*********

Once LibUSB is installed iRecovery should be able to function now.
——-
STEP D : Pwning iBSS + iBoot

I : Download this easy tool here – Payload Pwner-r2 for 3GS // It will help you create the payloads.

**SAVE THE PAYLOADS WHERE iBooty is.**
——-
STEP E: iBooty Prep.

Most of you know of the utility “iBooty” that I made for Aki_nG.

It will work as long as you place all of the correct files there.

I : Download iBooty GUI here – iBooty for 3GS and Extract it.

II : Extract your Custom IPSW created by sn0wbreeze with 7-Zip or another un-archiver.

III : Grab the kernelcache and bring it into the same folder as ibooty.
Also grab the iBEC from the folder “Firmware\dfu\iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu”

IV :
* Rename your iBSS 3.1.2 signed to “ibss312.dfu”
* Rename your Kernel 4.0-Custom to “kernel.40″
* Rename your iBEC 4.0-Custom to “ibec40.dfu”
======
Your folder should look like this :

- iboot.payload <– Created with Payload Pwner.
- exploitibss312 <– Created with Payload Pwner.
- ibec40.dfu <– Grabbed from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- irecovery.exe <– Comes with iBooty.
- readline5.dll <– Comes with iBooty.
- iBooty.exe <– Comes with iBooty.
- ibss312.dfu <– THIS NEEDS TO BE YOUR iBSS from the restore!
- kernel.40 <– Grab from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- sn0w.img3 <– Comes with iBooty.
======
——-
STEP F: Restoring to 4.0 + Booting
——-
*MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON 3.1.2 WHEN DOING THIS*

I : Run iBooty and Select “Prepare Device for Custom Firmware”. Run the Process and if you see a snow flake, you can proceed!

II : Now open iTunes and restore to the custom ipsw.

***WHEN DONE, YOUR DEVICE WILL HAVE A BLACK SCREEN AND NOT BOOT! ITS IN A DFU LOOP [THIS IS NORMAL!]***
——-
STEP G : Booting

I : Just Re-Run iBooty and select “Boot It”. If all goes well it will boot!
——-
Enjoy!

Name: iWing SR-HD | Price: CHF 139.99 [Buy it] | Rating: 4.5/5

The Amazilla iWing SR-HD has truly revolutionized the way I listen to music in my room. I had never really been interested in wirelessly streaming music from my iPhone to my speakers because for some reason, I thought the quality would decrease or it wouldn’t work well. But, I am really glad Amazilla have introduced me to their iWing SR-HD product – allowing you to wirelessly stream music from your iPod to your speakers!

The Amazilla iWing SR-HD comes with both their SR and HD products. The iWing SR contains the two wireless components; the receiver, which you stick into the 30 pin connector on the bottom your iPod and the sender which has a headphone jack that you plug into your speakers. The receiver has a rechargeable battery within that can be recharged using an included adapter.

The sender has a button which is used to turn on the wireless sending and is also what you use to connect the two together. The headphone jack, which is on the bottom of the sender, is on a hinge allowing you to plug in the device at angle necessary.

The receiver has a red LED light on the front allowing you to know when a signal is being received. If no signal is being received after 3 minutes, the receiver will automatically turn off to conserve battery.

The iWing HD is a dock station which has both a compartment for you to place your iPhone when you aren’t using it and want to recharge it, and a compartment to place the wireless sender into. You can then plug in both the power and speaker through separate ports at the back of the dock.

The connection between the two is done at a frequency of 2.4 GHZ and actually allows you to have 12 m distance between.

There is no audible quality decrease however, there is a slight high pitch whistle that can sometimes be heard through the speakers when at low volume. This is most likely caused by some sort of interference in my room. I originally thought that it must be my iPhone itself but putting it into airplane mode didn’t change anything. As I said, this can only be heard at low volumes so if you crank it up a bit, it is barely audible.

Because of this problem, I decided to try it through a different set of speakers AND not through the dock. This caused the whistling to stop. I’m not sure what’s going on here but I do not think it is the iWing SR’s fault.

So if you are in the market for a way to listen to your music cable free, I think the iWing SR-HD is definitely worth checking out.

You can buy the iWing SR-HD CHF 139.99 [Buy it]
