TheCramps has released an updated version of his hack called SysPartition which free up memory on the system partition of your iDevice. If you are getting error messages when trying to install apps with Cydia, chances are that you don’t have anymore space on your system partition. This will solve your problem. This is how to free up memory in the system partition on your iDevice on iOS 4.0 / 4.0.1.

NOTE: Some people have had problems running other language keyboards after using this so it is recommended that you only use this if you only want to use the English keyboard.

The top screenshot shows how I had barely any space left on my system partition on my iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.0. After running this, here is how the system partition looked:

Using SysPartition is actually really simply as it only involves using a .deb file. Here’s how to use it:

1. Install iFile on your iPhone, iPod Touch. It IS on the AppStore however you can install a free trial of it which is just as good as the real version in my opinion.  I have never come across a feature I couldn’t use because I had the trial version.
2. Download the .deb file.
3. Use SSH or iPhone Folder to move the .deb file onto the root of your iPhone or iPod Touch.
4. Open up iFile and navigate to the root directory and click on the .deb file. Click on Installer and let it do it’s thing.

What the program does is move a bunch of system files like fonts and languages out from the system partition and makes a link between the system partition and where the files are moved to (which happens to be private/var/stash/).

This year at E3, Gameloft, one of the biggest iPhone gaming developers there are, announced that they were working on bringing the web-slinger himself to the iPhone. We hadn’t really heard much about the game, entitled Ultimate Spiderman Total Mayhem, since then, until now because Gameloft have released a trailer as well as some screenshots for us to ogle over.

From the below trailer, you can see that Spiderman’s classic enemies like Doctor Octopus and Venon make an appearance in the game.

No additional information on the game has been released, but from the screenshot, you can also establish that the Spiderman game is going to be a free-roaming game. Here are some more screenshots from the game.

All European iPhone and iPods have a volume limited imposed on them due to EU restrictions. However, a tweak has been released onto Cydia which disables this restrictions and allows you to be able to listen to your music at the maximum volume possible on your iPhone or iPod.

The tweak can be enabled through Winterboard. There is no application for the tweak and you wont notice any other visible chances. You will only notice that your music is A LOT louder!

A lot of iPhone 4 users who unlocked their iPhones and are using an unofficial carriers are having problems connecting with FaceTime. Luckily, PushFix has come to the rescue and released a tweak called MiTime which allows you to use FaceTime on an iPhone using an unofficial carrier!

Please note that you will need to be able to receive international SMSs because it uses two SMSs to enable FaceTime on the unofficial phone.

You can find the MiTime application for free in Cydia, but then you will need to head to the MiTime website and purchase a $5.99 license for the app.

MiTime instructions

Step 1

IF you are outside the US, check your phone # in Settings -> Phone. Your phone number must be correct and should have the + symbol at the front of it. You should NOT continue unless your phone # is exactly the one that you entered on the purchase page of MiTime.info

Step 2

Install MiTime from my repo via Cydia

Step 3

Run MiTime and verify you are authorized -- If your phone # matches, you will be.

Step 4

See below and compare to what you have on the screen:

If it says “Ready for activation” and has an “Activate” button, you are ready to use a credit to activate.

If it does NOT say “Ready for activation”, leave it at the this screen until it resets FaceTime® and re-springs (2 minutes). After re-spring, unlock the phone and within one minute it should warn you about costs -- IMPORTANT-->click OK. If it doesn’t warn you or does not reset, see the troubleshooting tips below.

If it says “Activated” you can stop here. It will back up your FaceTime® activation for later recovery.

Step 5

If you are ready, tap the Activate button and follow the prompts. Only send one activation request and wait for up to 15 minutes. It should only take 1 minute, but don’t waste your activation credits. If it doesn’t activate after 15 minutes, eject and re-insert your SIM. Wait 1 minute and then reboot.

Step 6

If it says the request was sent, stay on this screen. Within 1 minute usually, you will see it change to Activated.

Step 7

You are done. Once it shows Activated, it has saved your token and FaceTime® is fully enabled.

Step 8

The app can be used to fix almost any FaceTime® problem in the future just by running it.

Notes for After you have installed MiTime:

• If you turn off FaceTime® or it gets turned off somehow, don’t turn it on in Settings -> Phone. Run the MiTime app and it will fix it and turn it back on.
• If you ever see the warning message about costs again, tap Cancel and run MiTime to see what is going on.

Today I’ve got a review for another silicon case, this time created by the folks over at ZZCase.com. The case is called the Swirlite Silicon Case, named after it’s design on the back of the case. The case is for the iPhone 3G/3GS and is currently on sale! Find out if it’s worth buying or not after the break!

The case is made entirely from oderless-silicon which is a plus because the first silicon case for my 1st generation iPod Touch had quite a stench when I first got it and took a day or two to loose it. ZZCase’s Swirlite doesn’t smell at all, straight out of the box.

The case has the neccassary cut out for the vibrate on/off switch and has slight protrusions so that you know where the buttons for volume and the on/off switch are without needing to look. However, this is one of the slight downfalls of this case because of the thickness of the silicon, you need to push quite hard, especialy for the volume buttons, to press it and also, you get very little tactile response (it sometimes doesn’t feel like you have actually pressed it). This is more a problem with the volume buttons than the on/off switch.

The hole at the button of the case, unlike for most of the cases that I have used, is big and spans across the whole of the button of the iDevice which is a positive in my opinion because with many of my other cases, you cannot use your iPhone in a dock with the case on, but with this one you can.

The design is where I fall in love with this case. The feel and the look of the swirls indented into the back of the case is gorgeous. The swirls emanate from the hole cut into the back of the case allowing you to see the Apple logo. Not only this, but the indentations add a significant amount of grip, both in my hand and when my iPhone is in my pocket (my iPhone has a tendency of slipping out of my pockets, this case stops that). Also, the wide range of colors means that everyone can use this case, no matter what your favorite colour is. The case that I am using is the blue and looks great on my iPhone.

Unlike the Otterbox Impact Series case that I reviewed, the case doesn’t cover the black bit that encircles the screen, but simply frames the whole iPhone’s front. This makes it a bit more liable to getting slightly lop-sided on the iPhone but a quick rearrange fixes that.

This case has tons potentially with it’s great colour selection and design but quality is what it lets it down a bit. For example, if you rearrange the camera to be centered in it’s cut-out, then the cut-out for the Apple logo is no longer centered. Despite this, as it doesn’t really both my, I still really like this case and am going to be using it from now on.

Yesterday it was announced that Planetbeing had managed to complete the iPhone 4 unlock that he and the rest of the Dev Team had been working on. Now he has released that above video of him demoing the unlock.

Great news! The iPhone 4 unlock that the Dev Team have been working on for the past few days has finally come to completion! Planetbeing tweeted the above tweet announcing it.

According to Musclenerd’s above tweet, Planetbeing found a clever new way to unlock the iPhone which as the method used for old phones had been patched.

Planetbeing also tweeted the following image showing his iPhone 4 (which are currently only sold in a limited number of countries) using the Canadian carrier Bell’s SIM card.

YouTube have just launch a brand new mobile website made entirely through HTML5 meaning it’s fully compatible with all the iDevices.

The new YouTube mobile website (m.youtube.com) offers a number of enhancements including:

• It’s really fast.
• The new user interface incorporates larger, more touch friendly elements, making it easier to access videos on the go.
• It incorporates many of the features you’ve come to expect from YouTube.com, such as search query suggestions, options to create playlists, and the ability to “favorite,” “like,” or “unlike” videos directly on your device.
• As we make improvements to YouTube.com, you’ll see them quickly follow on the mobile website, unlike native apps which are not updated as frequently.

You can access the latest YouTube mobile website from your Android or iPhone browser at m.youtube.com. Bookmark the new mobile site and save it to the home screen on your device for easy access in the future.

The new site is launching in English only on July 7th, but will be rolling out in other languages in the coming months.

As some of you may have noticed, there was something called the Game Center (Apple’s equivalent to Open Feint) which was included in the Gold Master version of iOS 4.0 but not on the final release. This is because it is going to be released to the public in the Autumn. However, it is now possible for you to install the Game Center, reserve your username and play around with it!

What you need:

• iPod Touch/iPod Touch on iOS 4.0 (release version)
• iPhone Folder to access the file-system of your iDevice (or SSH if you prefer)
• The GameCenter.app

What to do:

1. Open up iPhone Folder and go the the following directory on your iDevice: /private/var/stash/Applications
2. Download the GameCenter.app from above and extract the .zip file.
3. Move the .app folder within into the directory /private/var/stash/Applications
4. Use iFile or any FTP client to change the permissions for the .app folder to 0755
5. Reboot your iDevice and you will have the Game Center on your iDevice.

OR

1. Open up Cydia and add the following source: http://repo.woowiz.net/
2. Search for ‘Game Center’ and download it.
3. Reboot your iDevice and you will have the Game Center on your iDevice.

Apple’s only move at fixing the problem was to remove all of Thuat’s apps from the AppStore and I presume, launch an investigation into the hacker.

This is the statement that Apple released:

The developer Thuat Nguyen and his apps were removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchase patterns.

Developers do not receive any iTunes confidential customer data when an app is downloaded.

In the past, I have reviewed two other OtterBox cases (Defender Series and Commuter Series) and have thoroughly loved both of them. Today, I get to play around with another one of their cases, their Impact Series Case for the iPhone 3G/3GS.

Unlike the other two OtterBox cases, the Impact Series is made from only one layer – silicon. Purely silicon cases have never really appealed to be because the one silicon case that I have bought in the past was too floppy and didn’t fit onto my old iPod Touch well enough. However, the OtterBox Impact Series case is the complete opposite. The rubber fits perfectly around the iDevice within and feels solid in your hand. The case also feels nice and smooth in your hand and doesn’t add much weight to the phone at all.

The Impact Series case is available in two colours; black and white, but OtterBox currently have three different limited edition cases called the Impact Series Etched Cases. There are only two hundred of each case being produced and one is already sold out so if you want one, you had better buy soon for $24.95 [Buy it]!

The case is made from a durable silicon which is engineered to protect your device in every way. Due to the design, if you drop your iPhone onto the floor screen down, the added silicon padding on the top and button of the case will provide a buffer zone for both the shock and ensuring the screen doesn’t get scratched on the floor. Each corner of the case is fortified with extra silicon to protect the device within from shocks after being dropped on it’s corner.

The case has all the necessary holes to provide clear access to all the buttons, the 30 pin connector at the bottom of your iPhone and the headphone plug. The hole for the camera and the one that allows you to show off the Apple logo on the back of your iPhone are both perfectly center demonstrating the attention to detail OtterBox have put in with the Impact Series case (and all their other cases).

Included inside the box, you will find the Impact Series case, an OtterBox screen protector, a tool for squeezing out air pockets whilst installing the screen protector and a micro-fibre cloth. The case is compatible with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

The only negative I can find about this case, which wasn’t a problem on their Commuter Series due to the plastic exo-skeleton, is that when you are shifting through pages on your iPhone’s SpringBoard or some other left – right or right – left swipe, your finger sometimes gets caught on the rubber encircling the screen. This reveals the silver bezel enveloping the iPhone and also creates a slap noise when it returns to it’s normal position. I have been using the case for a couple of days now and I can say this problem gets less and less prominent as it becomes a habit to do slightly less elaborate swipes to avoid this problem.

V : Now go back to iTunes and do SHIFT + Restore. Then browse for your 3.1.2 IPSW. You will need to restore
to 3.1.2 in order to pwn 4.0.

II : You will see folders like (Per**.tmp). Go into one of them, and you’ll see a folder called “Firmware”. Go there. Then go to the folder “dfu”.

III : Copy the iBSS file to a safe place, then you can remove the folder created by the iBSS Grabber.

III : Grab the kernelcache and bring it into the same folder as ibooty.
Also grab the iBEC from the folder “Firmware\dfu\iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu”

* Rename your iBSS 3.1.2 signed to “ibss312.dfu”
* Rename your Kernel 4.0-Custom to “kernel.40″
