Blackra1n has been updated for firmware OS 4.0 by GeoHot, it’s creator. The OS 4.0 is still in beta phase which means that GeoHot willl not release the jailbreak until after the final version is released so Apple can’t patch it but this proves, it can be done.

Apple have released a new version of iTunes with changes include support for iPad syncing and security improvements. Generally, it is safe for jailbreakers as all of Dev Team’s tools, PwnageTool and Redsn0w, still work on it however, GeoHot’s Blackra1n tool no longer works so if you are planning on using that, do not update!
A new video has risen and was confirmed by MuscleNerd to be real of a iPod Touch 3rd generation that was jailbroken and isn’t tethered.

Since the news of GeoHot saying that he is working on a untethered jailbreak, the iDongle has become less important to some but what needs to be remember about the iDongle is that it can be updated to work with future tethered jailbreaks that we may run into. The Blacksn0w unlocker created by the iPhone hacker GeoHot has been updated by MSFTGuy and PushFix to work for iPhone users who updated to OS 3.1.3 and still have 05.11.07 baseband.

Yet another jailbreaking team have sprung up claiming to have to answer to the question where is the iPhone 3GS untethered jailbreak?. Not only that but there application apparently gives you an option to download Blacsn0w v2 which may be a hint the GeoHot is working on/completed a unlock for iPhone users with baseband 05.12.01. GeoHot has gone ahead and posted some dissapointing news on his Twitter announcing that there was no way to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch 3rd generation with the current firmware OS 3.1.3 (you can jailbreak all other devices though).
As well as that, he doesn’t believe there will be a untethered jailbreak either.

EDIT: But he was wrong. There have been three seperate jailbreaking tools been made compatible with OS 3.1.3 since his Twitter comment. Redsn0w, PwnageTool and Sn0wybreeze (unstable).
GeoHot has gone ahead and posted a poll on his Twitter asking users who much they would be willing to pay for a dongle that you could connect your iPhone 3GS (with the new bootroms) or iPod Touch 3rd Generation which, at the moment have tethered jailbreaks, to start it up jailbroken on the go. iH8sn0w has gone ahead and released a public beta of his Sn0wybreeze program, a Windows port of PwnageTool. The program has the same functionality of PwnageTool including custom boot logos. The program works with all the usual devices (iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch 1st gen and 2nd gen) but does not work on the 3GS with the new bootrom or the new iPod Touch 3rd generation.
But there is a big problem for iH8sn0w as he stole the code from the Dev Team’s Xpwn and called it his own. Therefore, nobody is hosting it or even posting it as website have had DMCA on their backs.
Has GeoHot lost interest in the iPhone? Possibly or possibly not but we do know that GeoHot has decided to start working on other devices apart from the iPhone and iPod Touch. As we posted yesterday, GeoHot had wanted some help from his followers on Twitter to help him win a competition with a $1000 prize money. In return for winning the competition, he promised he would release the untethered jailbreak. He did not specify which device it was for but it doesn’t matter any more. GeoHot did not win.
