BlogDesk is simple, yet elegant. Light, yet feature packed. I’m extremely enjoying writing inside this program. It is built for WordPress, Movable Type, Drupal, Serendipity, and ExpressionEngine.

As stated, it isn’t pretty. But it works, and considering what setup I have, I really shouldn’t be looking for pretty-ness. Memory usage so far caps out at about 20 mB’s, half of Windows Live, a quarter of Qumana. It does what it is meant to do – blog offline and conveniently.

There we go. Very clean. Very useful. Everything that is often used is in the top bar. Everything else is conveniently out of the way.

Uploading a file from your computer is… even simpler than using the iPad. Insert a picture from your computer, and when publishing, BlogDesk will upload automatically for you. No need to access the media, and you don’t need to exit the window where you are writing it.

You can also have multiple blogs on this one program. In fact, you can actually select which blog to post on in a little box in the right of the text writing window. Even write to two or more blogs at the same time. Selecting the category is in the same little window.

Tags. Sorry, but BlogDesk is not as good as the browser-based WordPress. There is something called a Tag-Generator, and I have not yet explored into what it does. No “commonly-used-tag” cloud. I myself do not use tags, and it’s fine as it is.

No block quotes. What am I to do when I want to quote a large section of written material and have it look nice? It would be a nice update for the next version.

No watermarks in the image editor. I have learned recently that watermarking pictures is a good safety system. This would also be a nice update for whenever the next release is planned.

Any bloggers out there, try this out. If you like pretty, go for Windows Live. Both do about the same thing, it’s a matter of aesthetics. Hopefully in a few weeks when I switch back to Ubuntu it’ll be much better.

Note: Spell check’s dictionary is very very limited. Commonly used interblag words such as “blog” are not even in there. Not a big deterrent to use this program though, as the “Add-to-dictionary” button is right there.

Have you recently moved from a WordPress.com free website to your own personal server, aka to wordpress.org? I bet you are missing the views you used to get on the wordpress.com website. I know I did. But with the help of some guides, I managed to redirect my old website (http://alltechrelated.wordpress.com/) to my new one (http://blog.alltechrelated.com/). Here’s how I did it.

Firstly, this involves using the WordPress.com’s website mapping software so I’m afraid you are going to have to fork out $10 for this to work.

Anyways, without furthur ado here is the guide:

Go onto your wordpress.com websites admin page and click on upgrades –> domains.

Type in the domain that you want to add, in my case alltechrelated.com

It will then come up with an error and giving you some

This is not actually a problem, next step is you have to go to the domain manager so you can change the name servers of the domain. In my case it is Godaddy:

You click on the red circled button and a box pops up with your current nameserver.

I would write down the current nameservers so you remember them because after you have to change it back.

You then put in WordPress’s nameservers which gives WordPress control of the domain (do not worry, you change it back soon). The nameservers are:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Now WordPress have control of your domain. Go back to upgrades –> domains and type in the domain again.

It will now give you an offer to ‘buy’ the domain. This costs $10, as I mentioned at the beginning of the post.

After you have bought it, change the domain to the primary domain, in my case alltechrelated.com

You now have to undo what you did with the nameservers.

Go back to the domain manager and change the nameservers back to the original ones.

There you go, now your wordpress.com blog has been redirect to wordpress.org.
