An AMD Phenom II X6 Build…

Posted by gammaraptor July - 22 - 2010 - Thursday ADD COMMENTS

Hey guys, apologies for the lack of posts recently. It seems that summer doesn’t help clear up my schedule, rather i have work now… so yeah.

Anyhow, I have come to give you an idea for a nice cheap hex core build. The budget? 1k. Purpose? This is mainly a build for multimedia, as that is the main purpose of the hex core, multitasking, encoding, video editing, and such. Usually, I prefer Intel, but hey, AMD does have a larger value for performance…. ^^. Remember, all prices are in Canadian, and are based from Newegg. Some of the prices may change over time from sales, and i haven’t added shipping. Anyways, here we go!

#Edit: I have posted this at both AllTechRelated and projectFight, so if you find it on both sites, please note that it is not copying, rather I have just decided to post this awesome thing on both sites.#

My thoughts on Command and Conquer 4

Posted by gammaraptor June - 19 - 2010 - Saturday ADD COMMENTS

Recently, I went on a trip to China. What does China have? Cheap stuff. I bought Command and Conquer 4, since I like the game. I’ve come back and played it on my computer. It’s been quite controversial on how the game has done. Please note, this is not a review, I still have yet to beat the game.

Canadian Copyright Reform – Bill C-32

Posted by gammaraptor June - 4 - 2010 - Friday 1 COMMENT

As you may know, Canada has been working to create copyright reform. Today, the Canadian Government introduced Bill C-32. The official text can be found on http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Docid=4580265&file=4. I was just surfing around today, when I remembered about the Canadian Coalition of Electronic Rights. I read their article, and saw all the things that had changed from the older and controversial Bill C-61.

Overclocking for the Absolute Beginner

Posted by gammaraptor May - 21 - 2010 - Friday 4 COMMENTS

So one day, a geeky kid walks up to you. “What’s your proc speed?” You, being a beginner with computers, says the usual “I don’t know…” You go home and search up on google “How to determine your proccessor speed.” You check. You have a Pentium E5400. Clock speed, 2.7 GHZ. Not knowing anything about what this means, you go and report this to your geeky schoolmate. “E5400? And only 2.7GHZ? OC it!” Alright, I bet some of you would be absolutely confused at this point. Since it’s for the absolute beginner, I’ll be explaining some basics, what all this stuff is, ect ect.

One cool feature in Ubuntu 10.04…..

I was just listening to music and while mousing over an icon, I realised that there was a new function. Or maybe it’s old and I’ve just never realised it. It’s pretty cool, but it’s still a little flawed.

Computer Guides – Suggestions!

Posted by gammaraptor May - 5 - 2010 - Wednesday ADD COMMENTS

Brrr….. It’s really cold outside. I woke up this morning, to find my entire front yard covered with snow. Yes. Snow in May, it may sound insane (pardon the pun) but it’s Canada, once it started snowing in June….

Anyways, I’d just like you guys to help me with some suggestions for my “computer guide” posts. Eg. May’s Mid-End Gaming Computer. You know, the one that was supposed to be 1400, but ended up being 1700.

May’s Mid-End Gaming Computer

Posted by gammaraptor May - 1 - 2010 - Saturday 6 COMMENTS

Hey guys, I was just looking back at my old posts, and found the one I made about the “crazy high-end computer”. So, I’ve decided to find one that is much more practical. I think it was around 2 grand. Anyways, let’s go! All prices are from Newegg, they may change, as most of the parts are actually on sale right now. I am using the canadian prices, but just for courtesy, I have also included the US prices in brackets. Note, the US prices are not “converted”. I just took them off of the US Newegg site.

*Edit: I didn’t realise that I had spelled XFX as XFZ, and that I had chosen the pre overclocked edition of the Radeon 5850. The prices have been changed.*

*Edit #2: I really screwed up this time. I don’t know how, but the price changed from 1300, to 1700. I guess there was some major miscalculation somewhere. So I guess it’s not much of a “mid-end” computer anymore. Heh.*

Photoshop: How to fade one photo into another

Posted by gammaraptor December - 8 - 2009 - Tuesday ADD COMMENTS

I assume everybody knows there is way more than one way to fade objects and layer into each other. Blurring, Filters, Opacity controls, but most importantly, the gradient tool along with the masks. I will be using Photoshop today, but it should be almost the exact same in GIMP.

Scratch

Posted by gammaraptor November - 27 - 2009 - Friday 1 COMMENT

I suppose you all have wanted to start programming once before. Well, I used to find it extremely frustrating, because I wanted to start making games, not just command line games. Well, I got over that. However, I found a program that allows you to learn some programming concepts and make games at the same time. This brings me to Scratch.
