Plants vs Zombies is Popcap’s latest hit game and despite being released only 11 days ago, has already had over 300,000 downloads and is actually the fastest selling game on the AppStore.
Now that I have played it, I understand why.
The game places you in a Zombie apocalypse and involves you killing Zombies and keeping them as far away from your house as possible using a variety of plants. Your house is situated on the left of the screen and waves of Zombies slowly move across the screen from the right trying to get to your house. The aim is simple, do whatever it takes to keep the Zombies away from your house.

You can then plant a variety of 49 zombie-zapping plants, including pea-shooters, bombing plants and plants that block the zombie, in your front garden to kill the Zombies before they reach and destroy your house.
The numbers you can see in the plant icons is the ‘price’ of planting those plants in your garden. The currency, however, is not money but rather sunlight that falls from the sky. You can also plant sunflower plants to generate even more sunlight. You have to click on the sunlight to collect it or else it goes to waste. There are also plants which obstruct the Zombies causing them to have to try and fight through them and therefore wasting time allowing you to destroy them easier.

There is an array of 29 different Zombies that will attack you each with a different skill. There are 50 different arenas to play in Adventure mode and the Quick Play mode allows you to re-play your favorite levels. The levels vary from day to night, different weathers including fog, on a roof and even in a swimming pool.
The game has the necessary auto-save feature when you quit and even has logins meaning you can have multiple accounts and therefore multiple saves for the game.
The combination of it’s addictiveness, the amount of content, trying to gain all the achievements and the Quick play feature allowing you to replay your favorite levels, means this game has many, MANY hours of playing within it.
This game is all about what is great on the AppStore. The statistic tell it all. This is the fastest selling game on the AppStore. The game-play is great, the graphics are great. This game deserves it’s 5 star rating. If you like Tower Defense style games, this is a must-buy.
