As expected, Apple went ahead and released the iPad – an Apple tablet computer. The half an inch and 1.5 pound device will be sold at a starting point of $499. As Apple puts it, this device fills the void between the smartphone (iPhone) and a laptop.
Infact, Apple beleive the iPad is more useful than a netbook. It runs an OS based on the iPhone OS, has a 9.7 inch multi-touch screen with a 1GHz Apple ‘A4′ processor chip.
The device has a 10 hour battery life and can stay on Standby (like standby on the iPhone) for up to a month.
The device comes fully wifi compatible, bluetooth ready, an accelerometer, a compass and optional 3G network over AT&T. The AT&T pricing plans for the iTab will be 250GB for $14.99 a month or unlimited for double that, $29.99.
The pricing is as follows:
In other words, the iTap can be bought with 16GB ($499), 32GB ($599) or 64GB ($699). If you would like the optional 3G, you need to pay an additional $130 which makes the prices 16GB ($629), 32GB ($729) or 64GB ($829).
(see how thin it is?)
Like Apple’s iPod and iPhone, the iTab is managed by iTunes and can also run all the 140,000 iPhone apps on the AppStore either in the size of the iPhone screen (320 x 480) or double it. iPhone developers from now on will ALSO be ablet to make their applications and games compatible with the new screen with Apple’s new SDK.
The iPad will be available to be bought in 60 days and the 3G version, in 90.
