Nescaline – A NES Emulator is on the AppStore

Zdziarski has managed to get a NES emulator released onto the AppStore. The emulator even includes a Game Downloads page where you can download NES roms straight onto the app. It includes 5 games but for jailbroken users, they can simply navigate to the applications folder and add their own .NES roms to the emulator.

What is Nescaline?

Kick it old school with games for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Nescaline allows you to play games made for NES, including home brew games, five of which are included, or use Nescaline’s download feature to add games to your library from any remote URL. Many games have been released as freeware, while some manufacturers have since released copyright for their games.

Features

  • Game download: Use the ‘Add’ button to supply a link to any valid .NES image file and the game will be downloaded and copied into the application. WARNING: Do not pirate commercial games.
  • Multitouch: Use the directional pad + A + B, or other combinations
  • Light Gun “Tap”: Tap objects on the screen to shoot them
  • Full Screen: Enlarge your NES picture to the max possible
  • Save State: Save an instant snapshot of your game and come back to it later
  • Game Genie: Use Game Genie cheat codes
  • Landscape and Portrait Modes: Just tilt the iPhone
  • … and many more


Nescaline works well with many games, but is not guaranteed to work with all of them. Author does not condone the piracy of commercial games.

For optimal performance, an iPhone 3Gs is recommended, but not required.

It actually turns out that it was removed from the AppStore however the developer is working on getting it back so be ready! If you have downloaded it, make sure you back up that .ipa
