Team S4PH was a….science experiment?

As most of your probably assumed, the Team S4PH jailbreak that was supposed to give iPod Touch 3rd generatoin users the ability to do a untethered jailbreak was indeed a fake. Infact, it was some sort of experiment.

This was a study. Isn’t it amazing how 1 post on ChronicDev’s site lead to 7,987 views yesterday? I find it quite fascinating.

More info after the jump.

The application that they DID release in a password-protected .rar file which contanted a blank readme.txt and some programs that were installations for things like Adobe and Everest. You can view the cracked .rar file HERE.

Some people even believe that S4PH is a Greenp0ison spin-off because in the bottom of their Farewell post they say:

I know we’ve upset many people because they think we’re fake. Well, the team is fake… but the program’s not.

The program is not fake and since we know Greenpois0n are working on the same jailbreak some people have put 1 and 1 together.

This is not the first case of a fake dev team claiming they have cracked the tethered iPod Touch 3rd Generation jailbreak problem. A while back a team called Appuloha1l did the same thing. There motivation for the hoax was to motivate GeoHot to release the iPhone 3GS and in fact it worked as GeoHot released it promptly afterwards.

It seems we can not trust anyone but the Dev Team and the team behind Greenpois0n. What has the jailbreaking community come to :(
