Sky, the most famous television company in the UK, have decided to tap into the music industry and have gone ahead and released their beta of Sky Songs.

Sky Songs is a website where you pay a monthly fee of £6.49 gives you unlimited access to streaming their huge collection of music and gives you DRM-free music downloads in mp3 format working with your iPhone and iPods.

As the website stats, with a small monthly fee of £6.49 you get unlimited access to stream over 4 million songs and with that fee, you get 10 free downloads from their service.

Sky Songs offers two different payment options for the downloading of the music.

  • £6.49: Unlimited streaming of over 4 million songs + 10 credits (10 songs). That’s 65p per song.
  • £7.99: Unlimited streaming of over 4 million songs + 15 credits (15 songs or 1 album priced at £7.99). That’s 53p per song).

To download the music you need to install an additional program called the Sky Songs Mp3 download.

The great thing is that firstly it is cheaper than the iTunes (most songs are £0.99) but this doesn’t mean they don’t work with the iPods and iPhones. Because the Mp3 are DRM-free they can be added to your iTunes library without any problem.

The SkySong service is only allowed in the UK.

I think SkySongs could definitely be a contender for iTunes in the UK. Check out SkySongs today!
