Ngmoco’s new and popular first person shooter Eliminate has been recently discovered to play Quake 3 maps. Yeah, Quake 3 maps. Totally different games, but similar file formats allow for playing these maps in the iPhone game.
jaikben, a user on ZodTTD’s website, recently made this post about the discovery, which shortly afterwards made it to the homepage of his site:
Great news for all jailbreakers! The AppStore game by ngmoco (review here) works with actual Quake3 map “pak” files. You just need to put them in the baseq3 directory.
Sssshh don’t tell ngmoco before they block this in an update.
More detailed instructions:
To transfer actual Quake3 map PAK files, you will need either an SFTP program, or simply use a USB transfer tool such as:
Mac & Windows users: Download and install the DiskAid trial: http://www.digidna.net/diskaid/download.php
Windows users: Download and install iphonebrowser: http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/Next download the Quake3 demo .pak files: http://rapidshare.com/files/301332929/pak0.pk3.html
Then open iphonebrowser or DiskAid and browse from the root directory to: /User/Applications/(find the folder containing “livefire.app” )/quake3cd-demo/baseq3/
Insert pak0.pk3 in this directory.
Start Eliminate and press “play” -> “bots” and you will see the quake3 demo maps. For example, there will be a map q3dm1_picker.Enjoy Quake3 with sound and joystick controls right within Eliminate!
So, for all you people who play Eliminate, I hope you enjoy this tip-off. I’ve never played Eliminate or Quake 3, but I’m sure for those of you who do you’ll enjoy this!

Awesome! I really need to get the game. It looks amazing.
