Nikon’s newest DSLR.

The D5000 is a 12.3 mega-pixel DSLR, a must-have for people newly coming into the photography world. Compared to other digital single lens reflex cameras, the D5000 is considered quite small, compact. However, this does not mean that the quality of the pictures is reduced. The ISO can range between 100 and 6400, similar to those of the D90 and D60. The camera can shoot up to 4 pictures per second, great for sports or other situations where you might have to take a picture of a moving subject. The D5000 can come in a package with either the 18-55mm VR lens or the 18-105mm VR lens. A recent and new feature of the D5000 is its ability to shoot high-def 720p video, and live view, which lets you see what you are shooting in the LCD screen. The live view has not been fully developed yet, and the autofocus is horribly slow. It is possible to shoot about 500 pictures with one battery charge, which is quite low compared to most other cameras. It is possible, however, to swivel the 2.7 inch LCD screen back into the camera, saving battery charge and protecting the screen from scratches.

The D5000 is built for beginner DSLR users, and therefore it can provide a smooth transition between basic point-and-shoot cameras to professional (and really pricy) DSLRs. There are about 15 semi-automatic modes like the ones on the dial of your average point and shoot, including macro, scenery, portrait, sports, or night. Also, there are more functions inside the Scene mode, including food, party/indoor, sunset, and candlelight. As you can the hang of shooting with the camera, you can progress to the P, S, A, or M modes (Program, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, Manual). Program lets the camera control both the shutter speed and aperture. Shutter-priority lets you control the shutter speed while the camera chooses the aperture, and vice versa for the aperture-priority mode. Manual mode lets you change all the settings, giving you full control of the camera.

The D5000 is compatible with many accessories, including an external flash, gps locator, and remote control for taking pictures away from the camera.

I must say, that after using the D5000, I can conclude that the camera is an affordable, easy to use, and high quality camera.

Great review. This is a good camera for the price. It is simple to use and takes clear, crisp pictures. Also, the battery life is good. And the price makes it affordable to take good pictures.
