Videos Demonstrating Just How Bad the iPhone 3GS Security Is

The iPhone has been criticized for not being secure. There has been lots of stories in the past of people figuring out ways of how to find out contacts, sms etc from the phone even after a restore. Now, a YouTube user called MrNerveGas has posted 3 interesting videos demonstrating JUST how flawed the iPhone 3GS’s security is.

This first video demonstrate MrNerveGas removing the iPhone 3GS’s passcode and encryption on the backup it takes each time it is synced with iTunes enable a malicious person to have access to a the raw disk meaning they can see absolutely everything INCLUDING deleted photos, SMS’s, contacts etc.

This next video shows MrNerveGas demonstrating a forensic recovery of an iPhone 3GS. This is to demonstrate how easy it is for law enforcers to obtain the raw disk, that I mentioned above, and see everything INCLUDIND deleted files on the phone. The tool needed for this is only in the possession of the law enforcers but he claims that a hacker could make his own version pretty easily.

In his third video, he silences critiques who believed that breaking the passcode (as demonstrated in the first video) would erase all the files on the device.  In this video, he takes a photo at the beginning and can access it at the end.

As MrNerveGas says, these videos are not supposed to give people ideas and is not to encourage people to do this. These videos are supposed to make you aware and to think again about what ‘secret’ stuff you store onto your iPhone.
