The iPhone is great but one of the features it lacks in the SMS department in the ability to turn on SMS delivery report. For those who don’t know what this is, it’s when you get a message back after sending a SMS saying whether or no the message has been delivered or whether it has been stored until the person turns on his/her phone.
For me it is a necessary feature and I used it all the time with my old phone and was disappointed that the iPhone did not have it. However, I have found a trick which allows you to do this.
You do NOT need a jailbroken iPhone to do this!
This is not really a convenient way of doing it but it does work. It involves writing a little code before each message you send. The code does NOT come up on the recipients phone.
The code varies from different carrier to carrier but here is a list of the codes you need (from iPhoneStalk.com):
UK
T Mobile *0#
O2 *0#
Orange RCT followed by a space
Virgin *0#
US
T-Mobile *noti#
Germany
T-Mobile *T#
Vodafone D2 *N#
O2 *N#
e-plus *N#
Sweden
Telia *KV#
Comviq KV#
Telenor ##
Brasil
Claro *N#
Switzerland
SWISSCOM *N#
Turkey
TURKCELL *N#
Poland
PlusGSM (Polkomtel) XYZ
Croatia
T-Mobile *r*
Portugal
Vodafone *NOT#
Hungary
T-Mobile *A#
India
Voodafone *NOT#
Qatar
Qtel *N#
Belgium
Proximus *R*
Base *N#
Greece
Vodafone *#
Wind *0#
Serbia
MTS *!#
Telenor *!#
Romania
Orange *NM#
Israel
Orange *NM#
For example, to get the SMS delivery code for a phone on T-Mobile in US you would write:
*noti# I can now have SMS delivery on my iPhone!
And then you will get a message saying:
Message for [number] with identification [identification number] has been buffered/has been delivered on [date] at [time]
If you guys figure out any other codes or if any of the above work on other carriers, write a comment so we can keep the list updated.
