The Dev team have released a new version of their iPhone/iPod Touch unlocker and jailbreaker. This has similar features to QuickPwn meaning it is a quick easy way to jailbreak your iPod Touch 1st and 2nd Gen and jailbreak/unlock your iPhone 3G or 2G on OS 3.0!

redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Currently it is available for Windows and Mac OS X (there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac until we have this problem resolved).
REDSN0W PROVIDES SIMILAR FUNCTIONALITY TO QUICKPWN.
If you want to build custom firmware files with more flexibility it is suggested that you use ‘PwnageTool’ on Mac OS X.
- GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
- Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
- Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
- Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
- At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest version of redsn0w.
- This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
- redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
- redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).
To use redsn0w simply upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too!)

Yes you open the 'red thing'. You have to open the program to start it up. The program is self-explainitory.

You can theme you iPhone/iPod Touch (check out the iPhone Theme section on this website). You download jailbroken apps through Cydia.

after I go to users and then click on my user name there is no application folder

What download screen are you talking about? What does it say on the screen?
Do you have to have itunes 8.2? or will 8.0 work?
Well I believe you need to be on 8.2 to update to 3.0 so yes, you need 8.2.

Hmm that’s strange. Firstly make sure the IPSW file you talk about does have .ipsw as it’s extension. Otherwise, try redownloading your firmware from here and see if it works: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

You need to direct it to the firmware file that is the same as the one that is on your device.
Say you have a iPod Touch 1st generation on 3.0, you download that firmware file from here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and direct the program to it.

For this redsn0w version you must have 3.0 installed on your device.
i downloaded the redsn0w link that yu guys provided. but after i tryed to open it it says i need to find a ipsw?? is there any other way to do this?
For OS 3.0 this is the only and best way. The IPSW file is not a problem to find. Simply download the firmware you have on your device right now from here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and point the program towards that.

Ok, I received an iphone 3g from somebody that did not need it anymore. The phone had no SIM in it so i stuck an old Verizon sim in it, however when i try to hook it up to itunes it sees the phone but tells me that i need to supply the original sim. My goal for this phone is to merely use it as a device for music, podcasts, apps, wifi, etc. Is there a good way to get this thing to work for that? By the way i have downloaded the Redsn0w but got stuck on the first screen where it asks for the ispw …. checked under users\appdata\…. but found nothing. Went to the felixbruns download site but since i have no idea what the current firmware is i am not sure which file to select. Do you have some pointers for me on what i need to do? Thx.
Ok, just updated the phone thru iTunes to the latest SW and then ran blackra1n …. all is well!

Try not open but downloading. You will need to extract it using a program called WinRAR.
