Here is a very useful tutorial that I found on iPodTouchFans created by a_d_r_y_y. It shows you how to add Cydia apps without any internet connection what-so-ever, no Wi-fi or 3G or Edge.
Version 2 has been released which fixes ALL the bugs in this version. Download it HERE.
Without furthur ado, here is the guide:
This method was tested on iPhone 3g, iPod Touch 1g/2g.
First of a list of things you will need:
- Already installed iTunes
- Cyder (software for browsing Cydia repos on PC): Cyder (11232)
- USB cable connection (any of the devices stated above)
- Already jailbroken device with installed Cyida (of course)
- iFunBox (optional – I prefer to use it coz cyder sometime don’t transfer the files correctly): iFunBox (2459)That’s it
1) Install Cyder anywhere on your PC
2) Install iFunBox3) Run Cyder (there are 4 icons on the left of the app)
4) On the first screen(icon) is a list of sources, you can add the most common ones (Clicking the + sing) (I will post a list at the end of the post).
4) After the sources are added and loaded clink the second icon
5) Here you can search for your apps. As an example we will try to install Winterboard (from a fresh jailbroekn iPhone)6) in the search field (at the bottom) type Winterboard.
7) press the magnifying tool next to the text box to search
8 ) you will have to press it many times…coz it searches names, descriptions and so on…so until in the list says Winterboard keep pressing the search button.
9) once you found it (or scroll down and select it by your own) select it with the checkbox
10) notice the right part of the screen now…there is the description of the app and under it is a list of apps that needs to be installed before you can install Winterboard (in this case it says mobilesubstrate …and some numbers)….CLICK on it to find it!!
11) once you did …select it also with the checkbox!
12) Click the “Download selected packages” button (at the bottom-left of the page)…wait for them to download.13) close cyder and open iFunBox
14) navigate to:
Raw File System/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall
15) if the folder Cydia/AutoInstall is not there….create it! (beware IS casesensitive)
16) the downloaded apps form cyder are in the “archives” folder where cyder is installed. They should have the DEB extension!
17) copy those files to the above indicated location!18) Run cydia for first time reorgananization! run once more and choose “User”
19) Reboot your device by holding Home+Power 10sec
20) Don’t do anything for a couple of seconds (wait untill it installs)
21) run cydia and check in the “Manage/Packages” if what you choose is installed!
22) Reboot your device once again (this is required only coz Winterboard requires it)23)That’s it…once it’s booted up you should have winterboard up and running
24) There are sometimes issues of not showing the Icon on the springboard…to fix this do the following (Do it ONLY if you follwed everything and you don’t get the apps icon the the springboard):
25) Download and install an app (repeating the same process from (6)) that REQUIRES the “Restart Springboard” function. For exapmle…you can install Clippy!
26) once installed go into cydia…and UNINTALL clippy (or the app of your choise) like you would normally do
27) cydia will ask you to restart the springboard – DO IT!
28) Now the icon should show up

I got kind of lost by step 18. what do u mean by, Run cydia for first time reorgananization! run once more and choose “Userâ€
The second time you open Cydia after you have just jailbroken normally it says which type of person are you, ‘user’ or ‘developer’. If that doesn’t come up just continue ignoring that step.
When i enter a source in the first step in cyder i cant get any program in the second icon , i dont know what im doing wrong plz help
hmmm, to be honest I do not know what is wrong. Try reinstalling it.
If anybody is having trouble getting sources and packages showing up in Cyder, it may be due to the NTFS file system.
I got around this by ‘installing’ Cyder on a memory card formatted to FAT, though I believe FAT32 may also work.

Does not seem to work for me… i followed all the steps but the apps don’t seem to install. what is weird is, they do show up in cydia under “manage ==> packages” but i still can’t use them.

dude… i can’t add source on cyder… then i fun box can’t open normally.. it just shown for 2 second and it’s gone.. what is the problem??

Do i need cydia. because i was looking to find a way to install cydia without using WIFI because i dont have it.
You do not need wifi to install jailbreak your device (ie put Cydia onto it).
everything went well installing winterboard and stuff but when i try to use or activate a theme nothing happens, what seems to be the problem? did i make any mistakes or missed something?

Have you selected the theme inside Winterboard? If there not showing up after that something strange is going on :S Try rebooting

Yeah I’m actually haviing this problem as well. It was after updating something called LibActivator which comes with the ProSwitcher program. Have you got that installed?

I´ve seen some Questions like unanswered here .. so i think i give you some answers
At first evrytime load with dependencies, because it will load all other “Apps” you need for this one
If you have enterd an source .. clicking right and refresh this source to see the apps
Icon not shown? check the first (load dependencies) ore Apps like winterboard who need a respring after install .. simply reboot a second time
Only question i have for other people:
I think for first starting cydia you need to have internet connection on the iphone. my Cydia is started with internet first time so i can´t try this and after JB with 3.1.3 i dont want to ^_^

.copy the *.deb yo’ve downloaded to Raw File System/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall (if u don’t have make it)
.run cydia and check in the “Manage/Packages” if what you choose is installed

on step 18 do you have to wait till it comes up or do you manually put it back on oh yh iam talking about the ipod

HI, it was working for me until i got to the point where i need to download those required before i get the app i want(step 10). From there, when i click on it and click on the magnifying tool to search for it, i get a message saying: Access violation at adress 0043BABO in module `cyder.exe’. Read of adress 00000004. I have no idea what i am suppose to do about that. Help please! Anyone?
I MEAN I CAN’T NOT FIND THE mobilesubstrate APP required on step 10. I click on it and when i hit the magnifying tool to look for it i get the message i wrote on the above question. I NEED HELP PLEASE!
What operating system are you using? Windows 7?
Yes it is Windows 7.
Try right clicking on the program and running it as administrator.
The right click is not doing anything because the program is not underlined. When i click on it, it goes to the search box and on i do the right click, it does nothing.What else can i try?
I mean right click on the program button that you click on to open up – the shortcut. Then click run as admin.
